Mrs Liang can identify a dye batch inconsistency between two runs of the same burgundy, produced in the same week, by holding both ribbons flat against the light box at an angle that no procedure document has ever specified. The official QC process catches most things before this point. Mrs Liang's Thursday test has caught twelve supplier-side quality drifts in the past two years. Three of them were caught before any order was shipped with the affected ribbon. The others were caught early enough to replace the stock before the next customer order was due. In no case did a buyer receive affected ribbon that Mrs Liang had reviewed on a Thursday and flagged.
On the production floor, Sifu Chen is harder to explain to someone who has not watched him work. He has been running ribbon looms since 1994 — thirty-two years, across four different machine generations. He knows the sound each machine makes when the warp tension is correct, and the slightly different sound it makes when it is 2% too high. When a new loom was installed in the factory last year, the manufacturer's technician set the parameters by manual and measurement. Sifu Chen ran his hand over the warp threads and said the take-up tension was slightly inconsistent on the right edge. The technician adjusted by instrument and could not find a deviation. Quality issues reported after delivery are investigated by tracing the production batch records for the affected delivery. We ask buyers to provide the spool serial numbers or batch codes from the affected ribbon, a description of the issue, and photographs where possible. Investigation findings and resolution proposals are communicated within five working days.
